After seeing the cinematic masterpiece Spring Breakers with my girls Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez last week (don’t know why they didn’t ask me to jump in on this…I must have been busy), I suddenly remembered that our very own spring break is lingering just around the corner. Whether you’re going to Cuba like some freshman guys in my Calc 1 class, or venturing somewhere much more familiar like that chair next to your TV that has a permanent smell of Cheetos, here are some jams to inspire you to make the most of your week off.

Selfish” – Future ft. Rihanna

“I’ll be the first to say that I’ve never been a huge fan of Future, but Rihanna is a mf QUEEN so I knew I had to at least give this song a try. I was definitely not disappointed; this song has the perfect mixture of slow beats and catchy hooks. Maybe this will distract me from the fact that my professors are apparently spawns of Satan himself and each “selfishly” (get it) gave huge paper assignments due right when we get back. At least I can legally drink pina coladas now.” – Caroline Lewis ‘18

Are You with Me” – Lost Frequencies

“I’m not going to lie and act like the lyrics are super deep here, but they’re definitely feel-good and spring break appropriate what with the mentions dancing near the water, Mexico, and margaritas. Sounds more enticing than my trip to Iowa. But alas. Also, this is actually a cover (I have a lot of feelings about covers in general) but it’s really different from the original, and frankly, better. Lost Frequencies is sort of reminiscent of Kygo, so if you’re into that, definitely check this song out!” – Grace Rice ‘18

Slide” – Calvin Harris ft. Frank Ocean & Migos

Whether you’re recovering from an anxiety attack-studded midterm week or suffocating in your hometown during Spring Break, this fun and catchy song is the perfect way to transport your mind to the beaches of Cancun. Last week, Harris tweeted that “all my songs in 2017 have been sonically designed to make you feel f*cking incredible.” In that respect, “Slide” does not disappoint. With our exceptionally warm February (@climatechange), who says this can’t be the song of the summer?” – Sarah Sullivan ‘18

Keep the Car Running” – Arcade Fire

“My spring break plans involve boarding a bus to Michigan at 4am to go volunteer with a bunch of strangers for a week. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else, but the only way I’ll survive the likely 20-hour road trip is with some indie rock. Something about this song, which sounds a whole lot like it’s being sung by Bruce Springsteen, hypes me up and calms me down concurrently, which makes it perfect to listen to if you’re traveling to unknown territories this break. As for me, I’m just praying they keep the bus running.” – Lucy Palmer ‘19

Life is a Highway”- Tom Cochrane

“I too will be boarding a bus to North Carolina at 4am to kick off my spring break on Appa, and I had to find a song that symbolized the 14 hour bus ride I will soon be undertaking. Then I realized, hey, you’ll be driving on a highway, and like, life is a highway, and WAIT, there’s a song with that exact same title! Isn’t the universe funny sometimes? Now, it would be really funny if they played Cars during the drive, because you know the moment the Rascal Flatts cover comes on, I will be losing myself in song. Anyways, here’s to a week of traveling down this crazy little highway we call life!” -Emmett Walsh ‘18

Green Light” – Lorde

“New Lorde. Enough said.” – Edward Byrne
